Attracting Butterflies . . . .

I think it's a universal delight . . . .  watching butterflies.  Often, I observe the stopping of the sidewalk traffic in front of the Ashram, throughout the summer, as they flit from the lantana to the purple cone flower to the butterfly bushes to the daisies.
Many plants provide nectar for them. Some are host plants for their hungry caterpillars. Some plants hold their eggs.
The intricate partnership of plants and insects in a garden is wonderful to watch.

"The top three nectar bearing food plants that butterflies love are butterfly weed, purple cone flowers and the New England Aster!
If you plant all three of these plants, you will definitely be seeing a lot more butterflies in your yard!
4 more top plants are Milkweed, Marigolds, Oregano and the popular Butterfly bush. "

This time of year, the  bright orange 'butterfly weed' flowers are beginning to turn into silky seed pods ( which certainly add additional seasonal interest ).  The seeds are too easily broadcast with the wind, so you may want to pick them before all available real estate is taken over.
