The temperatures have cooled down SIGNIFICANTLY !
Leaves are dropping and blowing all over town !
The dropping acorns , pecans , walnuts , hickory nut . . . Magnolia gernades and Sweet Gum bombs are hitting the ground at a 'take cover' rate.
The squirrels are scrambling to collect and fill a pantry for the winter (hopefully, not in our attic).
And the birds . . .
They are hungry , too.
Of course, there are plenty of choices to make when wanting to provide suet or seed. You certainly can make your own or purchase them everywhere (home improvement centers to grocery stores).
BIRDS LOVE FRUIT !
Fresh cranberries can be strung and hung as garlands in trees.
Apples , pears and oranges (Roma tomatoes, pineapples . . . ) can be thinnly sliced , dehydrated and hung on trees , too , for a few weeks before replacing / refreshing. (This will look beautiful on any property !)
**To Dehydrate Your Fruit :
* Set oven on lowest setting.
* Thinnly slice and deseed fruit / veggies.
* Cover with ascorbic acid to retain its color.
* Poke a hole near an edge to allow for a ribbon or string after dehydrating.
* Place on a sprayed cookie sheet, so that they are not touching each other.
* Bake for approximately 5 hrs.
* Allow to cool before slipping a cord through the fruit.
* Hang in an area you can enjoy from a favorite window.
If you can , always provide fresh water for the animals throughout the year.
