The strawberries have been producing solidly for a little while now.
They are being grown organically and have a sweetness when they are a dark pink.
I can't wait for them to go entirely red. I wish I could say that its is because of the bugs that I taste them early.
The truth is that I have had to learn patience in the Garden. I do NOT come by it naturally.
When our strawberries have hidden themselves long enough from me to turn red, they E X P L O D E with flavor ! ! !
To have a life enriched by Gardening, there are daily rewards.
Moment by moment, I am humbled by it all.
Here is one of my favorite strawberry recipes:
* Boil 1 cup of Basalmic Vinegar (1 tablespoon of honey with a sprig of mint optional) for about 7 mins.
* Let it cool
* Slowly drizzle it over sliced strawberries on top of vanilla bean ice cream or ricotta.
* Garnish with a mint leaf.
* Share with good friends.
Yum! I'll have to try that. Mom recently made a balsamic reduction as well. We have been eating strawberries for a few weeks now. Shyam often has a pink smear around his mouth when I look at him while we are out. Then I know, he has been berry picking again. We are also eating handfuls of fresh snowpeas right now. Also sweet and delicious!
